Broaden Horizons With SCOPE
Funded Aug 1, 2021Your gift of Scope Magazine has put relevant reading material into my students' hands. Previously, we relied on outdated texts provided by the county. For example, earlier in the year, I had to teach an article about how the future of the 2020 Olympics could be at stake. Prefacing my lesson with "Spoiler alert, they were canceled" didn't have the same effect. Now, my students have access to engaging poetry, non-fiction, writing topics, and more from your gift. Instead of writing about topics that students are unable to relate to, we were able to use the "Should Halloween be Moved to a Saturday" argument writing piece. This enabled students to really have an interest in what they were arguing, causing them to dig deep into the text and really have a desire to prove their side of the argument. Engaging content can make all the difference in the world to struggling students. We all so appreciate you providing that.”

Readers Gonna Read!
Funded May 9, 2021Your gift has created such excitement in my classroom. For that, we are all appreciative. To have a waiting list of 13 kids long for the same book, warms my heart. Students are becoming more and more reluctant to read independently lately, and being able to put exactly what they need in their hands at the right time can turn non-readers into voracious readers that can't get enough.
Using your gift, we have gotten lessons in perspective (and how there are two sides to every story, and they sure can look different!). We have also gotten to see how, when comparing a book to a movie, the book is ALWAYS better! Those skills will take students far into the future, and help them blossom into independent thinkers with a firm grasp on inter-personal connections.
As I tell my students, reading is the path to all other knowledge, and they are beginning to believe me, thanks to you.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Pascarella
Sunshine State Books Bring Light
Funded Sep 4, 2020I kindly thank you for your donation to my classroom. Seeing my students bargain, argue, and plead for these new books warms my heart. We are in a strange time, where students have little to look forward to, and even less access to enjoyment. Your gift helped provide just that.
Since receiving the donated materials, I have loaned out every single book that was purchased at least once. Some of the titles are more popular than others, of course. When a student hands me the book, ready for it to return to the shelf, I ask what they thought of it, ready to recommend the next thing for them. This has enabled me to get even more books in the hands of students beyond your donation.
In a time when every little bit of enjoyment counts, being able to have reliable access to quality reading material is huge, and I thank you.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Pascarella
