The Dewey International Peace Garden and Bird Sanctuary
Funded Mar 27, 2023Thank you so much for your generous contributions. We have been using the materials provided to improve the John Dewey High School International Peace Garden and develop a native pollinator friendly wild flower garden. Unfortunately, we did have a set back this past summer when the DoE construction authority ripped up the gardens to replace the water mains, but we've recovered well. The main garden provides a sense of tranquility and beauty when students first arrive and the lighted perimeter decorative fence provides a feeling of wonder and serenity for those staying late and leaving after dark. The dozen bird houses and feeders are encouraging native birds to visit our campus. Hopefully, the bat houses will attract many mosquito eating bats.
The students absolutely loved seeing, assembling and mounting all of the gardening gifts. They have learned so much about the environment, flowers, gardening techniques and safely using tool.
We're currently in the process of researching water effects and solar powered pumps to create an even more relaxing environment and proper sanctuary for native birds.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Kanyuk
