While this entire school year has been a challenge for us all as adults our children as well are facing many challenges with this pandemic. They come to school daily giving their all, ready to learn and not only are they asked to wear a mask the entire 7 hours they are there, which they take off only for breakfast and lunch, they are also having to stay in their seat for probably 85-90% of that time. They are having to sit 6 feet apart from the rest of their classmates, they are not able to work together or get in small groups as they are used to doing during centers and other small group activities. They tend to get restless having to sit still so long and not to be able to move about as 7 and 8 year old children should be able to do. With the flexible seating they will be more comfortable and they will be able to move around while still staying in their own seats. This type of seating is also very helpful for students that have ADHD or ADD or a learning disorder that may call for accommodations. While we do have students with such cases in our class we will be helping them while allowing our entire class to learn comfortably during a time that is so hard and stressful for everyone. I feel my students will be more successful academically when they are comfortable in the classroom and are not having to worry about things like being still in a hard chair all day.
