"You get a seat! You get a seat! Everyone gets a seat!" Much like Oprah Winfrey, I want to shout this with excitement to my students while they buzz around my classroom and explore new, flexible seating arrangements! With the ever changing world, students are discovering they can learn anywhere at anytime. It's not the desks or books that make the room a classroom; it's the created learning environment and students that make it a classroom. The pandemic proved that students were still participating and showing growth in reading and writing despite being at home on the couch, in the bed, or at the kitchen table. Some students were scoring higher than ever because for the first time in their education, they were learning in a setting they truly felt comfortable. I want to mimic this feeling with a variety of flexible seating. Flexible seating will allow my students to have more autonomy in their learning experience. Given choices, students uncover what settings work best for their learning needs and help them feel the most confident and comfortable.
