The Sarah, Plain and Tall and Skylark books we have selected will create an opportunity for our students to use award winning literature to learn many of the Ohio Learning Standards such as comparing and contrasting plots, themes, and settings written by the same author and describing characters' traits, feelings and motivations. Our third grade teaching team will use these books as a whole class novel study, reading them together and having daily discussions about the characters, plot, setting and theme. We will use the Magic Tree House books to supplement our current reading program . We will use these books during small group differentiated reading time. With having different levels of students, these books will help us to teach each student at their current reading ability. They will also give our students access to books that are fun for them to read! Our overall goal is to develop proficient readers that will have a lifelong love of reading. The document cameras will be used in two different classrooms to model excellent student work samples so others can learn from their examples. Many times students just need to see an example of a piece of writing that is done well. Or they may need to see one that is not so great and then discuss ways that the writing could be better. The document cameras will provide us with this technology that will improve our overall writing skills. Not only will we be able to use them for writing, but we will also use them to model math problems, especially measuring with a ruler, and cursive writing techniques.
