My objective is to provide a learning environment that will be all-inclusive to the various types of learning styles, cultural backgrounds, and psychological tolerances found in my classroom. Research shows that the addition of the style of active classroom seating which I am requesting will result in less behavioral interruptions as students will have their energies focused in a way that is non-disruptive to the learning of the group as a whole. This style of active classroom also addresses not only academic and behavioral subject of interests in our school system, but an active classroom will also promote healthier living. Obesity is an epidemic plaguing our children. Training young ones from am young age to associate movement with success will open their eyes to another world of possibilities. In an effort to become a more trauma-sensitive classroom, I am requesting balance ball seats and K'Motion stools. It is common for Oklahoma students to have an ACE score of over 3. This is dramatically increased in the population of students I work with in my particular Title I school where students have over a 90% of our students receive a reduced-price lunch rate. I will use these materials in an unrelentless effort to reach the overwhelmingly underrepresented learning styles in an underprivileged demographic. Many ascribe to the idea that by the time children leave the second grade and third grade, they have already adopted their mentality of school; they know whether or not they "like" school and furthermore, longitudinal research shows there is a link to their perception of their abilities in school and whether or not they will go on to graduate college. I am pleading that you give me the chance to convince my students that school is worthwhile and help me to teach them how to succeed.
