Our high school is a Title I public school in the Houston Independent School District. A strong team of four art educators teach drawing and painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry making, and AP and IB classes to a diverse set of students. On average, we support nearly 600 art and photography students each year. Many of these students receive college level credit, are exhibited in the MFAH and win many other awards thanks to equitable access to supplies in the classroom. We strive to make our classes accessible to ALL students and never want a lack of funding or supplies at home to stop them from discovering and cultivating a passion for making creating personal and expressive works of art. Normally, the majority of our supplies would be shared among students in the studio art classroom. These are not normal times, and we don't want those at home who may need help with access to be left out of the creating process, unable to participate in our classes. Even when we return to the classroom, clear guidelines have been provided from all levels that supplies should not be shared among students due to COVID-9. Our school and administration are always extremely supportive of the arts. However, we are experiencing a sudden and unexpected gap in funding due to the need for supplies to be dedicated to each individual student. We truly appreciate your support to help fill these gaps and get supplies to the students who need them the most!
