Technology Tool Kits
Funded Sep 16, 2020Thank you so much for the generous donations. The classes this semester were virtual with only a small amount of students coming into the school, so the students needed individual supplies and material to complete projects at home. I explained to my classes about DonorsChoose and how the class would receive donations to help with their projects. I would keep the classes updated on the donations and notified them when it was fully funded. I am not sure the student's fully understood the process until I scheduled the material pick-up.
My co-workers and I packed 58 bags for students in my Technology Foundation classes. Each bag had a message, a snack, project supplies, and the ordered materials. The drive thru material pickup was a huge success. Grandparents, parents, and neighbors brought students to the school to pick-up their bags of material. A couple of students walked and one rode his bike. Everyone was excited and thankful to receive their materials so they could start working on their projects.
The students in my classes had to design, draw, and build a balsa wood truss bridge to scale and to certain specifications. Once the bridges were completed they were tested to see how much weight it would hold before it collapsed. The students enjoyed hands-on work and watching their design develop to an actual bridge. The students used the remaining supplies and materials to complete other projects such as a cardboard treehouse, catapults, trebuchets, and a rubber band powered car. The students had fun working on their projects while they learned about simple machines, limited resources, energy, and about building supplies to build a backyard treehouse. The students were amazing! Most of the students completed their projects at home sitting in a Zoom class. The students were able to complete a hands-on class in a virtual classroom setting with the gifts from DonorsChoose. Thank you again for donating to my classroom so that the students could experience hands-on learning.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hulse
