My name is Monica and I am returning to teach this September after 7 years of raising up my own four young children. When schools shut down because of COVID-19, all of the working laptops we had for teacher and classroom use had been sent home to students for remote learning. The one laptop that is left for me is dilapidated, with little to no battery life, glitchy and unresponsive. My classroom is not equipped with a desktop computer or an Ipad. With the billions that NYC Dept. of Education have lost due to budget cuts, our school has been unable to receive funds for teacher supplies or technology to support a returning teacher like me. I am thankful for this community of donors who can assist me in obtaining the much-needed, dependable technology that can allow me to hit the ground running when I welcome my 3rd grade special education students. We will continue to be teaching remotely this coming year, with one day of in-person teaching within the brick-and-mortar classroom. To prevent the spread of COVID, students won't be able "shop" for books and borrow from the classroom library like they used to. Having a laptop would allow me to sync it to the Smartboard so that I can teach literacy lessons through animated digital libraries such as VOOKs or EPIC to bring stories to life and and learn through shared texts. When I teach virtually, I can confidently use my new Macbook to teach my class live via Google Meet, knowing my students would be able to see and hear me well. More than ever, my students need access to quality education that is engaging and effective. Thank you for helping me provide that for them!❤️
