In a time where there is no longer a sense of normalcy for adolescents, it's more important than ever to encourage, enlighten, and navigate their learning abilities in creative and accessible ways. Middle school students are embarking on their journey of becoming individuals, experiencing new social pressures, maneuvering various classes throughout the day, and finding ways to express themselves. Having access to technology and being able to develop their love of reading shouldn't be added to the list of pitfalls.
By providing an iPad to my classroom, you would add fun and much-needed technology skills to reading lessons every day! There are hundreds of reading apps that are proven to help struggling readers, and most importantly, help them realize that reading is fun! I would love to bring an iPad into the daily lesson structure to enhance our reading practice and make our lessons fit the new age of technology. Even more so now that our schools are choosing remote and hybrid options. My students have limited home resources to practice their reading, so by adding this technology to each of our face to face classes, I could support their interests, abilities and alter their mindset of reading being 'uninteresting' or 'mandatory' process. So many students that I teach have never seen the value and excitement that reading can offer, but having an iPad to use for engaging apps and phonics work will help to solve that problem! Please help me reach my goal and aide in developing my student's love for reading while increasing their technology access.
