As we all come to expect, this upcoming school year is going to be a challenge for students, parents, and teachers all across the country. We are embarking on a virtual education journey with little direction and correlation to teaching as we knew it. As my project, I would love to use technology to revitalize the use of in class manipulatives! Math symbols and expressions are an integral part of math education. Students learn how to do math and how to write math. In many ways, the technology that has been provided for my school district is far behind the needs of the math department. Current resources available to teachers do not have the capacity to demonstrate exponents, variables, multiplication and division problems, equations, and shapes in an interactive way this upcoming school year. An iPad and Apple Pencil would be efficient for note taking, examples, and solution sets that would be used for virtual in-class instruction. Using my teaching methods with the help of these tools, students would have a stronger grasp on how to write varying mathematical expressions. Lastly, being able to demonstrate to students the progression of their work can provide confidence and increase determination to finish something they have started. These tools would help my students connect to math in a more authentic and comprehensive manner.
