  • Sensory Space for our Future Superheroes!

    Funded Dec 7, 2023

Thank you so much for your support of my classroom! My students had the opportunity to use another kind of swing to help regulate their emotions so they could better focus on academic and functional goals. These students are well deserving of such a great sensory space. My student's drawings as a thank you is all she loves to do when feeling relaxed in our space. Most students in my room loved the use of the compression in addition to the swing. This was such a nice addition to our room. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kitner

  • Sensory Space!

    Funded Jan 9, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation to the Autistic Support classroom at Pittsburgh Langley PreK-8! My students enjoyed quiet time in the swing when they needed a break from everyone. They were able to access a space to calm down and refocus so they could grow academically and socially. It is great to be able to meet our students' sensory needs, as every child is different.

The swing provides a comforting space to calm down or just be alone and have quiet. The students were so excited when we received the package in the mail, then more excited as a few helped build it! What a bonus experience for them!

Thank you again for the space our students enjoyed daily! Every one of my students this year enjoyed the swing and at least one each day utilized the new space. Next year it will be used again, which is great knowing part of the sensory room is ready for the next group of students with similar sensory needs! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kitner

  • Cooking With Friends!

    Funded Sep 14, 2022

Thank you for the starter supplies for our students' cooking class. The students have enjoyed getting together with another classroom and making easy, healthy snacks. They've been able to enjoy foods they made and celebrate during a Christmas party. It has given the students independence and confidence in being able to make something they could eat and like! I'm excited to see how this class can grow and for the students to continue to learn and enjoy a basic life skill that some of us take for granted. These students need taught how to be in a kitchen, practice good hygiene, and practice appropriate social skills. Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • Sensory Room Supplies

    Funded Aug 24, 2022

My students are able to play games with one another now during sensory breaks, which improves their social skills greatly! They want to play with us, their teachers, and with each other and choose screen time less with all the games we received. This has really given them a new opportunity to practice their social skills in a new way; they don't even realize they are learning! The students want to get their academic work done so they can take breaks with one another; in the past, they'd choose to do something independently. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

  • Modern, Inclusive Supplies for our Autistic Support Students

    Funded Aug 19, 2021

My students were able to earn positive rewards for expected behavior and academic effort in the classroom. They were able to have access to technology, where our school did not provide this type of technology to our students. Certain students really thrived once having this technology to earn as a reward. Having access to multiple types of technology allow the students to want to use it and want to explore different devices. Not only do they want to use it for fun games or videos, but they want to use it for learning. There are so many valuable resources they now have access to, where they did not before. Thank you so much for your generous donation and understanding that all students should have access to technology!”

  • Back to Basics for Room 256

    Funded Sep 5, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation. School, while virtual is especially challenging for my students. Being able to get my students printed materials so they have a break from computer based programs and assignments allows them the opportunity to be creative and practice social skills once back online. My students will be able to continue to use these materials once we return to in person learning as well. This has been a huge help to my students and my classroom. My students are able to reuse some printed materials since they could be laminated and then other assignments they could create with dry erase markers. These options for written work let them have a choice and give them the opportunity for repeated practice of basic skills, which they need. Thank you again for your support of public education!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kitner

All of my students still do not have access to technology and I intend to get them printed materials so they can join the class even remotely. Hopefully, we'll all be back in a brick and mortar building soon, but during virtual learning, they will need supplies and work to keep their motivation strong and an opportunity to grow academically while at home. My students work on basic skills and need the opportunity to write on paper, not just use the computer. Having sensory needs, they'll need resources like weighted blankets to help with focus and calm. They also work on life skills, needing to identify grocery items, map locations, road signs and signals, practicing counting money, telling time, and reading basic sight words. These materials can be provided to the families using the printer and dry erase and laminating items to they can reuse and practice multiple times at home. Many of my families have nothing as far as resources to help teach their children. This project will help students feel as if this like being in the classroom; the work will be familiar to them.
