Since we have developed such a reliance on technology for virtual and hybrid learning, students need more brain breaks than ever. Students need to step away from their screens to access their problem solving skills and use creativity in the real world. When we stimulate our brain in different ways, it grows like a muscle! Students and adults alike are adjusting to a school environment that they have never seen before. It will be challenging to maintain learning and teaching stamina while wearing masks, staying socially distanced and engaging in live school for only half of the week. Brain breaks will build brain power and give students the reprieve they need to be more successful in our classrooms! STEAM learning is important because it incorporates the 5 disciplines (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) used in everyday activities. They promote problem solving, and creative and analytical thinking. Due to COVID-19, all shared classroom materials have been locked away. This includes Lego stations, math manipulatives, art supplies and science materials. To teach the WHOLE student and prepare them to be successful and contributing members of society in the future, we need to incorporate STEAM activities. STEAM kits will allow students to individually create something in the classroom that they can also take home to further explore. To promote creativity, the "Celebrate Diversity Activity Bundle" allows students to create an accurate representation of themselves and be able to take their craft home. The world is in a challenging time but as an educator I know it is still my job to develop our future generations. I need to set my students up for success, everyday. When kids take time to create, they push their thinking outside the box and gain confidence that anything is possible!
