Students with autism often experience sensory overload. It is an unpleasant experience where the body’s senses experience over stimulation and the individual feels flooded and overwhelmed. With these sensory toys my students will be able to soothe themselves and help them refocus on class activities and lessons. I hand these toys out to help students stay engaged longer in lessons and activities. Without these toys my students are prone to meltdowns, self-harm, and in desperation they try to soothe themselves by grabbing random objects to put in their mouth. To avoid this distress, I always have these toys around the classroom. I want to have enough toys to create bins for each student to avoid sharing and prevent the spread of Covid-19. My students are the most vulnerable population in our school and district. I try to anticipate problems and have solutions ready for their well-being.
