In music, students will be able to use every instrument listed to create, perform, and understand music from an elemental, historical, cultural, and global point of view.
In my music class, my students can use the Boomwhackers, handbells, and rhythm sticks to engage the most important elements of music. In my 6th grade "Finalizing the Fundamentals" classes, such elements include steady beat, rhythm, melody, harmony, form, texture, timbre, dynamics, duration, and expression. In this class, students will also be encouraged to practice basic levels of composition by composing melodies using a variety of harmonies and musical textures.
In 7th grade, my "World Music/Music History" classes, students will use the Boomwhackers, handbells, and rhythm sticks to engage in activities such as African drumming, Gamelan hand bell orchestral experimentation, and Latin American melodic/harmonic/rhythmic accompaniment. Furthermore, these instruments can be used to play famous pieces of historical music from composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, and Bach. The students will gain a clear picture and understanding of how music changed through each music period by playing and creating music with these instruments.
In 8th grade, my "20th Century Pop Culture Music" classes, students will use the Boomwhackers, handbells, and rhythm sticks to play along with some of the twentieth centuries most famous music styles. There are many pop, rock, and multi-styled pieces of music that fit with all of these instruments. Students will also be able to create unique rhythms and melodies when we cover the hip-hop/rap section of this class. The students will creatively play and interpret some of the 20th century's most famous styles of music.
It is clear that all of my students will be positively impacted by the use of these instruments. They will be used to meet all state/content standards, and I would greatly appreciate your support!
