  • Super Summer Supplies!

    Funded Jun 8, 2022

I would like to thank you again for your generosity and kindness. Your donation for my class' summer school supplies allowed us to have a productive and engaging summer school. My students were able to enter our classroom each day knowing that they were in an environment that provided them with resources to be successful. We were able to thrive in both academics and social-emotional learning. I am proud to share that all of my students were able to progress towards sixth grade and are doing exceptionally well in their new classes.

Thank you for your contribution and thoughtfulness. I am so grateful for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Spadaccini

  • Outstanding Organized Classroom

    Funded Aug 31, 2020

When I first created this project, I had absolutely no idea what to anticipate for this school year. I had hoped for the return of my students for in-person learning. However, unprecedented circumstances led me to teach a fully-remote class of students.

I decided to stop by my classroom in September to collect any materials that would benefit my remote instruction. I had not entered the room since the initial COVID-19 shut down in March. As I unlocked my door and stepped into my classroom, I became overwhelmed with emotions. My students' artwork was still strung on clothespins across our windows. Faded math and reading anchor charts were still tacked up on our bulletin boards. Tucked in my students' desks were notebooks, crayons, and overdue library books. I felt like I had entered a time machine as waves of nostalgia and longing encompassed me.

But perhaps the greatest feeling I experienced at that moment was gratitude. Gazing around the classroom reminded me of all the joy my students and I experienced during the previous school year. I reflected on all of our collaborative discussions, engaging small group instruction, and hands-on cooperative problem-solving activities. I also thought about the instances I took for granted; whether that be the times my students would dance in between lessons for movement breaks or the "aha!" moments when a student who was struggling finally understood a challenging math concept. We created a home in this classroom. My students may not return in-person for the time being, but it was my responsibility to enhance this classroom for my students whenever they do return.

During those days that I spent in my classroom, the supplies for this project were dropped off. Every day that a new package arrived, I felt thrilled. I would quickly cut open the boxes and excitedly sort through the bubble wrap to discover fresh new supplies. These new bins, containers, and decor allowed me to enrich my room into a warm, inviting space for my future students. It also gave me a glimmer of hope and anticipation for the future, even in this time of continued unpredictability.

Whenever the time comes for in-person learning, I feel confident and prepared to provide a safe environment for my students to thrive. I can only imagine the cheerful expressions on their faces when they re-enter our classroom home. Those smiles will be because of your support and donations. Your kindness has made such a large impact. Thank you for your faith and thoughtfulness, I truly appreciate it.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Spadaccini

Each and every day my students demonstrate a love for learning. This spring, we moved from our lively classroom to our homes for safety. But now as we ease back into in-person learning, I recognize the necessary supplies my classroom needs to support my students. Classroom environments are essential in promoting students' academic growth. My students with special needs especially require a space that is clutter-free and minimalistic. Organization as well as a clean, inviting atmosphere allows for all students to feel comfortable and safe. Studies have shown that classrooms that have a neutral color palette and contained supplies benefits all students; specifically students with special needs such as ADHD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, etc. I intend to re-organize our overflowing classroom library with clear bins, as well as store books in large bins above our closets. I also wish to continue to enforce a calming color scheme throughout the room to minimize distractions and sensory overload.
