Help me create tomorrow’s science leaders by supporting DIVERSITY in women students. Our school is a 6-12 STEM school (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), providing opportunities for women students to take college-level science courses and seven years of engineering! This diverse group of female STEAM (arts integrated with STEM) students will be tomorrow’s science leaders. STEAM has been known to engage students traditionally absent from STEM. Women and minorities fall under this category and with this iPad, my science class can help contribute to closing this gap. With this iPad and Pencil, students will be able to collect and analyze data that is crucial for developing critical and scientific thinking. They will also be able to use it to draw detailed diagrams as this tablet was specifically built to be touch-sensitive for professional artists. This iPad will also demonstrate to students that STEM is very present throughout our lives and the humanity fields. Perhaps my students will become the next Zaha Hadid, an architect who was able to produce aesthetically beautiful but also functional buildings. Or maybe Maria Sibylla Merian an entomologist who was also an artist and used her art to educate others through her beautiful illustrations.
