Creative Solutions to Online Learning for Preschool

Funded Sep 1, 2020

As if providing speech therapy to preschoolers was not difficult enough, this school year presented challenges that seemed so daunting and unattainable that I spent the first few weeks of plan time with my head just spinning and holding back tears. Through the funds that you provided I was able to purchase pre-made themed language virtual classroom ideas, then tweak them to add on more speech and language focused books, songs, and activities that your funds also provided. It has made this new role in my job a much easier transition, saving me hours and hours of time trying to find and create these virtual speech therapy materials on my own. I was able to take these materials, focus, create weekly themed classroom assignments and move onto the actual therapy with confidence. I have been able to post one each week for the families to use as they have time, and then use the materials in my weekly sessions to reinforce the vocabulary, concepts, and continue to grow the child's skills in multiple contexts. The themes I have created so far have also had a literacy foundation, because this area can be further impacted with a speech and language delay. The student's have enjoyed Little Red Riding Hood week, The 3 Bears, The Mitten, Pete the Cat, and many more. I also was able to sit down this week, look through all the materials you enabled me to purchase, and planned out the rest of the year!!! Each week with its own theme, books, songs, art activities, and even BOOM cards. In a school year that many of us have been holding our breath, I can exhale and know that I am equipped and able to move forward through these challenges. I can use the precious time I have left each week to focus on the student's and families individual needs. The preschoolers are even having fun too! Words can never truly express how thankful I am. I couldn't have done this without your support.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Michelle
