My students and I have been working towards reading authentic novels in class. Novels that will open their eyes to new worlds and cultures. Novels they can relate to through discussions and writing. This project will put a novel into each of my students hands so they will be able to read in school and at home. They will be novels my students will be able to keep. With COVID-19 we are not allowed to share materials and I feel this is the best way to combat that inability. I know this cannot be done for every novel, but I also know my students will love that they get to have their own copy. My students live in an impoverished area and not all have access to everything we ask of them. This will be one less burden on their shoulders. Every student having a novel means my students that struggle reading will have access to a hard copy. My students that need to take notes for comprehension will be able to do so. This project not only opens doors into reading for my students, but it also opens doors into what/how we can study Black Brother, Black Brother by Jewell Parker Rhodes.
