Sensory processing issues can make it hard for children to succeed at school. Every child has different needs and thus, the classroom can be a place that overwhelms or simply does not meet their sensory processing needs. When children have trouble handling the information their senses take in—things like sound, touch, taste, sight, and smell, they can display negative behaviors or become disengaged. A child seeking sensory input needs it to help regulate and calm their body throughout the school day. The goal of this project is to discover each child’s sensory input need, find the right tool for it, and teach them in prekindergarten how to use it appropriately. By doing so, we will create a generation of children able to attend to the important pieces of information in a classroom and therefore have a good chance at achieving their academic potential. Furthermore, the child is able to understand their body’s movement in relation to their surroundings and themselves. This in turn aids the social development of the child.
