By having this project funded, I will be able to help my students have access to a variety of Sequoyah books from years past. My students will start the year off with a “Book Tasting” activity and a new book tasting will take place each 9 weeks. The book tasting will explain the rules of the “Sequoyah Smackdown” and introduce students to previous Sequoyah books to inspire their goals and desire to read. Students will need to read three books from the current year list to participate in the state voting at the end of the year but also, each nine weeks students who have reached their nine weeks goal set at the book tasting will attend a Sequoyah Luncheon as an honored guest to celebrate lifelong readers. To help my students gain a love for reading amid the pandemic I feel that having a concrete text that is engaging and nominated by their peers will encourage their reading ability and mold them into better scholars. Sequoyah books are rich in culture and diversity and will bring a colorful plate of literature to my hungry readers. Please help by supporting our classroom Sequoyah Library.
