Interactive Visual Instruction for Students and Teachers
Funded Nov 30, 2022Thank you so much for supporting our classroom to help purchase an iPad, case, screen protector, and pen. Students are volunteering more to answer questions just so they can use the iPad to do the work for the class. Other classmates are paying attention because their peers are the ones doing the work and demonstrating how to solve the problem.
This iPad has also made it easier for me to move around the room, work with small groups, and conduct whole class lessons. I can project the agenda, the standards, the directions, work out sample problems, show brief videos, and play math games all while either sitting with a small group or as I help individuals work. I can also use a monitoring app to see what is on each student's laptop to make sure they are on the correct websites during lessons.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Smith

Funded Oct 22, 2020I can't express my appreciation well enough to let you know the impact having the ScienceWorld Magazine has made in our lessons, for our students, and for our remote learning. As we work together during this pandemic era we have to find creative ways to keep our students engaged. The articles in ScienceWorld provide something for all student interests ranging from science studies on student's completing tasks while listening to different types of music, to voting and race relations.
In our STEM classroom we use The Engineering Design Process in all of our units and it is easy to discuss this process when talking about an article. For example, we just finished a unit on eco-friendly automobiles. Students had to research and compare current eco-friendly cars and write about what made them eco-friendly. During this unit we did an elastic potential energy lesson using a PEZ dispenser, and created "eco-friendly" cars using cardboard, rubber bands, dowel rods, and dvd's. Students had to meet certain criteria with their cars. During this lesson the December ScienceWorld magazine came and they had an article about the "Car of the Future?" I had used this very same flying car when introducing the lesson and students were surprised to see it again in the magazine.
Not all students share my love for reading but the graphics in this magazine are amazing and will grab even the most hesitant reader's interest. There are Locust invasions, strange fungi, unusual bats, electronic sensors, adorable animals, eco- fashion, what concerts might look like in the future, and New Year's Eve celebration history. There is no way that I could come up with one lesson that would cover each student's area of interest, but by incorporating the ScienceWorld magazine I am able to reach most of them.
Thank you for helping to reach student's interest and providing them a means to see and learn about things in their world.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Smith
