I am requesting a refrigerator and two freezer chests for our Project STAND Healthy Student Operated Food Pantry located in the in Memphis, Tennessee on the campus of our elementary school. The pantry provides students a means to give back to the community, to access healthy food options and learn life long skills. The food pantry goals are to provide students the opportunity to learn and earn a skill to provide life options outside of the life of crime. The pantry serves as a connection of eliminating a barrier to have simple rights such as easy access to food. Additionally, students will be able to earn a transferrable skills resulting in a deterrent to poor choice making and ultimately reduce recidivism. What we know is the existing food pantry is needed by its current service of 400 people monthly. We also know, there is opportunity to be more than a pantry but a community staple that provides resources necessary for survival- food and employment to the underserved. The donation request is to purchase a refrigerator and freezers to store perishable foods needed for the pantry distribution.
