As previously stated we have lost our funding which will greatly impact my students as their families won’t be able to purchase basic items such as sanitizers, masks and facial shields. The thermometer will be instrumental in the screening process prior to entering the classroom. These items are vital to my students safety and their successful return to school. Apart from the facial shields apparent use, transparent face shields are vital to both my special education students and my general education populations' reading success. My special education and my English language learners rely very heavily on facial cues. In Kindergarten, we use the Orton-Gillingham approach, which is a multisensory way to teach early reading and it is the building block used to build phonics and phonemic awareness foundation. A majority of the instructional modeling is centered around my students watching my mouth as I model the correct tongue placement and mouth formation. My students are from low socioeconomic status households and cannot afford to purchase these basic supplies.
