Measures For The Recipe For SUCCESS!
Funded Aug 23, 2020Thanks to Donor's Choose, my students were lucky enough to receive equipment to help them learn how to bake and cook. These skills are essential for anyone to become independent, especially my wonderful class. These skills help build their self-confidence, and it becomes evident with every class project we decide to take on. These skills can only be taught hands-on, and the resources received by them is a great help.
· Skills such as reading comprehension, following step-by-step directions using a recipe. Functional math by measuring ingredients. Science, by mixing ingredients and observing the interactions between them; also how temperature changes matter. And the delicious results that are achieved.
· The actual hands-on skills are the practical parts of our lessons. These skills can and will help my students to become more self-sufficient, self-confident, and independent.
· The most recent project we did was banana pancakes, and one of my students, Alyssa, was being supervised by her Mom. Her Mom just literally supervised her. Alyssa did all the preparation of ingredients and the cooking of the pancakes on her own. She was so proud of herself, and that's all she kept saying was, "I did it myself. Ms. Barbara"
My students and their parents were very excited and grateful for the materials they received to help their children. These materials allowed them to participate in these cooking classes without the stress of making sure they had what they needed
.We will continue to create delicious baked goods and dishes. As the school year progresses, we will follow more complicated recipes to increase my students' comprehension and understanding of cooking and baking.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Barbara
