Funded Aug 25, 2020within this crazy school year, we have seen lots of change. We have seen change for the good and change for the bad. Within the last couple years, we have seen an increase in diversity and an increase in the demand for more diverse texts within our classrooms. These texts allowed me to teach strategies and lessons about acceptance, bias, ignorance, and many other topics. I was able to teach about historical perspective and living history as well as ideas about inclusion based on ethnicity, race, sexuality, and gender identity.
Reading in my classroom is highly interactive. Students are continuously engaging with each other about what they read and what they think will happen next.
I have quite a few individual students that are forming close bonds with many of these texts especially since now they are able to see themselves in the texts.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Uptegrove
