iPads for Reteach
Funded Sep 18, 2024These iPads have helped both my struggling students as well as students who are exceeding expectations. For those students who are finding a new skill challenging, they are able to view prerecorded videos of myself reteaching the skill. And because it's recorded on the iPad, they can rewatch it multiple times, even in slow motion if needed. For other students who have mastered the skill, they use the iPads to see what their next steps might be. The prerecorded videos either introduce a new skill or have an additional activity related to the current skill that is more challenging.
The students have really LOVED the addition of these iPads! They have helped to instill more confidence and push their education. For me, they have helped as an extra set of hands, grow skill development and even manage behaviors.”

Bring Tech to PE!
Funded Mar 8, 2024So it's been a week since receiving the computer and I couldn't wait any longer to show you all the wonderful things we've access thus far!! It might sound cliche, but I truly can't put into words the deep appreciation and warm feeling in my heart that this donation as created. In regard to teaching and learning, I have 4 stations in the gym that students practice physical skills but with this donation I have been able to add a 5th station, one that is technology based. With this computer, at station 5, students are able to further research the skill, any questions, or any 'wonders' they may have.
In addition to being used as a research tool, I have also used station 5 as an assessment tool. Students take turns on the computer and either answer questions in test format and/or video format. Having a paperless option in physical education class is amazing! Everything is organized, secure and safe because it means no pencils are out while playing is going on!
Also, I have been able to input grades and speak to parents face to face with this computer! On the old computer, the student grades would not load because it didn't fit the page, but now it does! And since having our first parent teacher conference with this computer I was able to directly speak to parents with the camera on without any lag due to the better graphics, memory capacity and overall 'newness'!
And lastly, my school has seen a very large influx in migrants and this laptop has allowed me to have those students translate my lesson in their native language so they too can learn alongside their peers. Without this, I only had my own Chromebook in which I needed to teach the lesson so they lost out on valuable playing time because they had to sit with me after so I could reteach the lesson in language/s other than English.
Creativity speaking, this donation has opened so many doors! I love being creative, it's what keeps the teaching spark alive in me and I can see the same in my students eyes now! I can see that creativity/innovation directly affects engagement because since receiving this gift, I have created a PE newsletter with the incredible graphics of this Apple computer. I have added the newsletter in all of my Google Classrooms and highlighted outstanding students of the month. In turn, so many students came up to me and told me how much they loved seeing the newsletter and wanted to know how they could be in it! The newsletter created a desire among students to do more, a healthy competition to be the next one highlighted, a fun little way to get more reading in and a boost in confidence and sense of community.
Overall week 1 has been amazing! I truly can't say thank you enough! It's made my job so much easier and enjoyable and it's enriched students lives through the ability to create, understand and achieve that much more!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Killard
