What child doesn't love Lego blocks? As a STEAM Lab teacher my job is to engage the students in hands-on learning to enhance their education. It has been a joy to watch my 500 students come to class weekly and get excited about learning. I love to see their minds spinning with ideas when they are presented with a project. Watching their ideas come to life from their imaginations is always thrilling. From science experiments, hands-on activities and challenges, dissecting eyes and hearts to building with Lego blocks, children explore a world of possibilities around us. Lego blocks are an excellent way to practice engineering skills and problem solving. Many of my students lack the resources to purchase their own Lego blocks, so my hope is to collect enough Lego blocks to create Lego kits and distribute to each child during remote learning. There will be days when students are given a challenge to build a particular item and then show it to me in our Zoom classes. Having access to materials to engage students is vital to their education. I have seen first hand how creative a child can be when given the right materials to explore and build. It is always a joy to see what they create and to hear them explain their design to me. I know I have some future engineers in my classes!
