After spending over a year learning from home during the pandemic, social emotional support is crucial and vital to our student's success. In first grade we often engage in conversations around emotions and what to do when we feel frustrated or sad. We have a quiet area in our classroom for when students need a break. This area is currently just a mat on the ground with a sign. I am starting this project to make my quiet corner more effective, calming, and sensory. I would like students to have comfort and a variety of sensory tools available to support them. This will help students regulate their emotions which will lead to overall greater success in the classroom.
