Communication Adaptations While Using A Mask

Funded Sep 1, 2020

The technology is incredible! All students are required to wear masks due to the pandemic. Providing speech therapy is extremely challenging especially when students are wearing a mask. I've learned that many students feel that because their mouths are covered with the masks they do not want to speak or should not speak loudly. Now that has changed.

The students who have used the microphone/speaker LOVE their voices. The more exposure to the technology they have the easier it is for them to speak.

What the students love most about the technology is their discovery of how their voices sound through the speaker. This has made our expressive language activities fun, engaging and most importantly our messages are clear and audible throughout the classroom. We will be super excited to share the technology with the "remote" students when they return to the classroom. But for now we will practice using the technology in small groups, work on our speech and language goals in a new way and make our voices heard.”

With gratitude,
