Book Bins for Star Books
Funded Feb 5, 2022Thank you for supporting education! I have been able to place the Star Books in a different colored bin for each table in my classroom! The books are no longer crammed in the small book bins they were in, and students have easy access to the books.
I assigned each table a different colored bin and have labeled the books the color of the bin they are in, so if a book is misplaced my students and I will know where the book belongs.
I was fortunate to have extra colored bins which I have used to place literacy file folder games that I have made for my students to play during Independent Work Time”

Funded Dec 16, 2021We were able to use the double sided whiteboards today! This semester my students will need to know how to write their first and last name independently. My students were able to practice writing their first and last name on the lined side of the whiteboard.
My students use the double sided whiteboards during shared reading lessons. I read a book to them and cover the sight words we are focusing on that week. The students have to write down the sight word(s) that they think are covered on their whiteboard and hold it up, so I can see their answer.”

Funded Sep 25, 2021The hula hoops arrived yesterday and, students at Gulf Avenue were able to use them today!
My students and I walked the bigger hula hoops to the big playground, so all the students at our school could use them during their recess and lunch times.
I kept the small hula hoops in the kindergarten playground, so my class and the other kindergarten classes could use them at during our designated physical education times.
My class used the hula hoops today during physical education and they had so much fun. They are looking forward to using them again tomorrow!”

Funded Aug 13, 2021I am extremely grateful for your generous donations. I was able to organize my leveled books and organize all my reading books by category.
My students are now able to have easy access to their leveled reading books. It is easier for them to place their books in the correct bin when they return their books. They are also able to choose the books at their reading level with ease. They get to choose four to five books and place them in their leveled reading bag. The students then keep the book bag in their desks for a week and those are the books they keep for a week and exchange their books on Mondays.”

Learning Place Value!
Funded Jul 16, 2021I received the laminating machine last week and the place value chart today. I was able to use the laminating machine for the first time today, to laminate the number cards and place value cards!
I am so grateful because I will be able to laminate all the new materials I will be purchasing for the upcoming school year, and I won't have to wait to get that work done when the school year begins.
I am excited to begin using the place value chart in August, when the 2021-2022 school year begins!”

Learning During Zoom Sessions
Funded Dec 1, 2020My students have been able to use the whiteboards you generously donated during our class Zoom sessions. They have been able to use the blank side of the white board to complete math warm-ups. They have been using the lined side of the whiteboard to write words that we are blending and to practice sight words.
My students really enjoy using the whiteboards during our Zoom class sessions. During math warm-ups students write different ways to represent a specific number, and they draw what they see on dot cards. During blending and sight word practice students write the words on the lined side of their whiteboard.”

Funded Aug 29, 2020I would like to thank you all for your generosity and support to education. My students and I really appreciate your gift to our classroom.
Due to these unprecedented times we have been unable to use the wonderful easel that was purchased with your generous donations. The easel was delivered to my school in September and is waiting for my students and I when we return to the classroom.
When we get back to the classroom, we will be using the easel for blending, shared writing, writing, and math warm-ups.”

Ready Set Read!
Funded Oct 23, 2020I have begun using the Sight-Word Readers during my shared reading lessons. My students have been able to recognize sight- words that they have been studying from their kindergarten sight- word lists. They have also been able to read along with me because the books are repetitive and makes it easier for them to read along.
During our Zoom sessions, I project the sight-word reader on my document camera. During shared reading, the students not only read the book with me, but they also have to predict the sight word they think I have covered in various pages of the book. The students write it on their whiteboard, and after all of the students have showed me their answer, we read the page a second time and uncover the word to find out which students were correct.
My students are really enjoying the books. Thank you for your generosity and for supporting literacy!”
