Expressing Our Community Through Art: Mural and Graffiti Project
Funded Dec 20, 2024We are beyond grateful that you have chosen to fully fund our project! These supplies will allow students to create art that reflect who they are. We have learned about the dominant narrative surrounding our community. In their project, they will reclaim the narratives surrounding themselves and the place they call home.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Sarah
This classroom project was brought to life by Troutman Pepper + Locke Lord.T-Shirt Design Contest
Funded Sep 13, 2020This semester our students studied the history of the Bronx in humanities class and the state of our community's environment in their STEAM class. We also studied the way in which the dominant narrative has impacted how others view our community- as well as how our own perceptions are colored by stereotypes about the Bronx. Students used the materials provided through this Donors Choose Project to create t-shirts and art pieces that celebrate our borough. Using an art form that all Bronxites are familiar with, students used various graffiti techniques, such as stenciling, to celebrate and inspire. Students created pieces that they are really proud of. In a time of separation and isolation, this outdoor activity brought our school family a little closer.”

A Safe Return to the Classroom
Funded Aug 18, 2020Thank you so much for supporting me and my students. The air purifiers ensured that my students were kept as safe as possible while in school. We were able to feel more at ease while students ate in our classroom, completed work, performed Zoom interviews with local activists and even did socially distanced "group work".
When my students first began in-person classes they were understandably nervous about the risks. A few students and even a parent commented that they felt safer when they saw the "giant air filters" that were so graciously made possible from donors like you!
As we look to begin reopening classrooms soon, the filters will be put to good use once again. Thanks a million for your help during these unprecedented times!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Sarah
