My school is a diverse socio-economic school. Students struggle each year to have basic supplies to be prepared and successful at school each day. In a typical year, teachers will provide pencils, erasers, etc., or have class sets of crayons, markers, scissors and more. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is not feasible this year. The materials I requested are basic, but needed by my students. The pandemic has caused several of our families to have a loss in income and my students may not be able to get the needed basic materials for school. The materials I selected (pencils, crayons, highlighters, etc) will be provided to my resource students so they can be successful daily. How will I provide these materials and still comply with social distancing and safety protocols? Through the use of individual containers of course! The pencil boxes I selected can be wiped down or sprayed with disinfectant at the end of each day and each student will have their own box of materials to take with them to each class. They will leave these boxes at school in my room so that they will have these materials daily. This is already a unique and challenging year and providing the students with materials through this project will decrease some of the stress parents and students may have about returning to school!
