I want to give my students a sense of consistency in such an uncertain time. My students are accustomed to hands-on learning projects in the classroom. Since my students will be working from home for at least up until the end of the 1st quarter, I need to find ways to keep the learning style fluid. These materials will help with that. Students will be learning about inventors and creating their own inventions during this time. Rube Goldberg is one of their high interest inventors that we learned about in 4th grade. The 3d pen will allow students to create models or pieces for projects that they would not have at home. We will also be learning about Native American History. When we left for spring break, I had no idea I would not see my students again for the remainder of the school year. They were working on creating Native American artifacts to show what they learned about their tribes. We did not get to finish this project. I am sure the custodial staff tossed their items over the summer, not knowing the importance of them. The clay will be used for this project and many others. It is important to my students that they have the opportunity to show their learning in different ways due to their own specific learning styles and obstacles. These materials will help support this.
