These materials will not be used at home. It is my hope that as a first-year teacher I will be able to receive more books for my students to read during independent reading time. The books will be placed in our classroom library for students to practice reading independently. I have intentionally added books with various reading levels so that all of my students regardless of their reading level will have the opportunity to be challenged. I have also included some diverse books that I intend to use for read- alouds. I believe that it is essential for students to see diverse characters in books that represent themselves, and others that do not look like them to further their learning about culture.
