Digging Deeper with Digital Instruction
Funded Dec 27, 2020I cannot express how grateful I am for your incredibly generous donation to my ESL classrooms. Through your kindness, our classrooms, which were crippled due to covid, were transformed with live, interactive virtual TpT lessons.
My students were so excited to delve into the fun and engaging vocabulary and picture units for newcomers and younger students—there were 20 units in all! For example, they loved discovering new sea creatures, sea animals and plants in the ocean unit.
Each unit provided students with scaffolded English practice in each domain: reading, speaking, listening, and writing. The lessons are embedded with much needed audio support as well.
Thanks again for helping us in these trying times, but know that the units and other resources provided by you will be used for years to come!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Porretta
Learning English Through Engaging Technology
Funded Sep 4, 2020I cannot express the proper gratitude on behalf of my students and me for the two iPads you provided for my classroom. I am an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher in two urban schools in New Jersey. I teach students in grades kindergarten to grade five in the general education and special education classrooms.
Prior to this, we only had one rather old iPad that could not be used to download apps which minimized its use greatly. The capabilities of the new iPads are endless now that we can use new apps and tap into the world around us through the use of the internet. Some of the ways that we have used the iPads so far are for students to collaborate on documents at the same time, to translate words, and to interpret conversations between us. We have also used them to do learning activities, listen to music to learn new vocabulary, and video conference with remote learners from school.
My students get so excited when they can use an iPad because they are so kid-friendly! ALL of them can easily use an iPads, especially my younger learners and students with special needs who have difficulty using a keyboard.
Thank you for giving us this amazing opportunity to enhance our learning through this wonderful technology!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Porretta
