Monster Mug Making

Our "Monster Mugs" are finally complete! Thank you so much for donating the funds to purchase the slab roller and texture mats. The slab roller made it so much easier to make the mugs. Students also learned how to use the slab roller and texture mats correctly to build their skill level while creating in ceramic clay.

When the students first began to use the slab roller, they were so appreciative of the new equipment. They quickly helped each other whenever their classmates needed help rolling out their clay or adding texture to their slab projects. They also realized how quickly the clay can be rolled out using the slab roller vs. using just a rolling pin. They are very grateful for the addition of this piece of equipment and the texture mats to our classroom.

Students also learned how to load/unload the kiln as well as firing temperatures at different stages of their project.

Once the mugs were bisque fired, the students learned about glaze firing to the correct temperature for glass like results.

Seeing the students faces when they removed their mug from the kiln after the glaze firing was priceless. Their joy and amazement from the chemical change of the glaze was very rewarding as an art teacher. On behalf of my 38 Sculpture/Ceramic students, thank you for supporting this project.”
