Learning how to read is more than just learning how to read the words. When teaching students how to read, it is important that they learn this through modeling of read alouds that are fun and engaging. I have put this project together in the hopes of adding newer and updated books to my classroom library for my students. I have included books to be used in our curriculum, as well as ones to be used for as fun read alouds. I have selected books by the authors I would love for my students to experience as they are building up the excitement for learning to read. Mo Willems, Kevin Henkes and Helen Luster are wonderful authors who has great characters to use for learning character traits, as well as character comparisons. They have plots that are easy for the students to relate to and can begin some great conversations on their opinions of stories. I have also selected The Mercy Watson series as well as The Magic Treehouse series to use them for a whole class read aloud for fun, as well as using them for readers who are ready to take on chapter books in small groups. I have shared a few of the books from both of these series with classes in the past and students have really been excited.
