Our school has a strong focus on reading and we love to see our readers grow daily. We are a Title I school with a free and reduced population of over 94% and our kids often have no reading materials at home of their own. Storyworks would give them access to engaging stories, articles, poetry, and more resources to help make reading at home and at school a possibility. Although our students may have limited literary resources at home, they come in each day excited to learn and be the very best students they can be.
Storyworks will give my students the opportunity to be exposed to various types of texts, while staying engaged and being able to master the standards needed to succeed.
Due to COVID19 I will be teaching both face to face and remotely. Storyworks will allow me to reach all my students since they will be able to have their own copies and be able to access different skill checks and work from their computers. The articles are engaging, culturally relevant, and encourage critical thinking. Storyworks also offers great tools for differentiation, like leveled readers, audio versions, vocabulary slideshows, behind the scenes videos, scaffolded lessons, and project based activities which will meet the needs of all of our students.
In the past we have used Storyworks to integrate science and social studies units, spark students' interest in reading, and practice many different skills. Although this school year may look different my students deserve the best and Storyworks offers enrichment, grade level and intervention resources as well, therefore each student can see success and growth. The best part is that students can keep copies of their favorite stories! When students know they can succeed they begin to love reading, which is the ultimate goal
