  • Scholastic News: The Adventurer Awaits!

    Funded Aug 30, 2020

Reading this year looks a lot different from any other year. We didn't have enough money after buying all the covid supplies for a scholastic reading magazine we have gotten in the past. This year already, we were able to read the articles about our Presidential candidates. This spark a conversation of how we should inform ourselves about each candidate and not let what others say influence our decisions. We held our own third grade elections. We also received a math magazine too. We needed more practice with looking at graphs. I was able to bring out one magazine per kid and let them read about a real-world examples of graphs. One day unexpectedly, we had to evacuate our classroom so they can disinfect the room on a larger scale than normal. Many classrooms don't have any notice or warning that we have to leave the area for an hour. I have our monthly magazines ready, kind of like a sub plan if I can't take our books or anything with us. This subscription allows us to be ready to teach an important skill that normally would require my computer, books, and technology and still remain highly engaged in the lesson. We have to be ready at a moments notice to relocate to the hall, outside or any space that is open. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. My students are highly engaged in and outside the classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ward

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy-I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! Every student magazine that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these magazines have been chosen with my students in mind-I have watched them the past few weeks of school read titles just like these, and I have also asked them what type of magazines they would enjoy reading. Students will be able to choose what interest them, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
