At our school, all students experience dance in their curriculum. As we begin the new year, teachers are making adjustments for learning and student safety. I would like to ask donors to help us fund an outside movement classroom that can be used within the arts integration curriculum. Funding my project will help increase the dance students' knowledge of movement and how to it relates to academics in a safe environment. The essential items include spot markers and cones that will assist students personal and group spacing, a large parachute for children's cultural dances and hopscotch rings that promote coordination. A megaphone is included for safety, instructions, and music. Being outside not only permits us to have greater physical mobility, but it also allows students to do hands on projects with measurement concepts in a larger space. Using outdoor equipment like various sized sports balls and a golf chipping net students will measure and mark their results as they explore mathematical ideas such as levels, weight, and distance. Additionally the students are learning anatomy concepts that relate to movement. Using different outside games such as horseshoes and balance equipment, students will perform and observe the use of motion needed by the body. As a class we will analyze muscles, force, and movement used with funded materials. This will give students opportunity to have discussions their peers and build their science vocabulary. In years past we have learned to share many of our supplies. This year I am trying to provide the dance students with their own grade level classroom materials. Donations will contribute to many classes enjoying new items.
