Students performing LARAMIE PROJECT to raise discussion around LGBTQ rights
Funded Dec 3, 2024Our students performed their exquisite production of THE LARAMIE PROJECT in early December to an audience of 350 parents, friends, teachers, students and community members. Their work was authentic, heartfelt and profound.
Many LGBTQ+ students were in the production and many were in the audience. Audence members talked about how much the play meant to them and how supported they felt that we were able to peform the production.
Your donations helped to dress them and gave them much needed props and furniture. We literally could not have produced the play without you.”

Funded May 10, 2024Thank you so much for the theatre journals for my students, Grades 9-12! So far, we have reflected on our oral presenttaion projects, set our year's goals and critiqued the National Theatre's ROMEO & JULIET (2020 Filming).
They LOVE having such quality journals to track their growth for all four years of Drama study.
Every week, we reflect on a project, a quote by a famous theatre practitioner or a production we have seen. Our theare vocabulary, critique and self reflection skills are developing each weel and that's because of you.
Soon, I'll be asking to students to creat etheir own journal prompts, creating teh inquiry question that begins our free writing.”

Funded Nov 29, 2023Thank you so much for your donations for our Comedy CLUE! You provided specialty costume pieces and props that we sorely needed and the production was an amazing success.
Students were so excited when they saw the costumes and wigs that took their characters to a whole new level and elevated the production in terms of design and aesthetic.
This Spring, the Seniors in the cast are embarking on tehir Senior Exit projects where they plan, implement, rehearse and design their own independent theatre projects. So many of the lesson learned in CLUE will be applied.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Funded Oct 22, 2023I am writing to thank you so much for your donations to support our SEL nook--Dreaming for the Future.
When the students first saw the couch, they were so excited! It makes our nook look so cozy! The students have been able to escape the noise filled halls to our quiet Black Box Theatre to relax on our new couch. They read plays, write college essays and dream about their future.
The Black Box Theatre has become an oasis for reflection during lunch and after school and has allowed students time to read new plays, find new monologues, practice their auditions and explore new plays in our theatre library. We have students auditioning for theatre and musical theatre programs at NYU, SMU, Pace, Marymount Manhattan, CalArts, Carnegie Mellon, SUNY Purchase and more.
Without your help we could never have done this.”

The Reading nook allows them a chance for quiet contemplation and let their imaginations soar. It is also helping to build their theatre literacy as they head towards their Theatre Commencement Exam.
We cannot thank you enough for helping us to furnish their non-traditional classroom. It now feell like a creative space for learning, reading, dreaming and writing. Thank you for helping our scholars to soar.”

Even More Comfy Playreading Nook
Funded May 24, 2021When we received the bean bags for our comfy playreading nook, it completed our Playreading corner. Juniors and seniors can use the bean bags for their Theatre History Fridays where they engage in reading plays and/or interacting with our Google Earth Theatre curriculum and timeline creation.
Students were thrilled to have non traditional seating and we had to create a schedule for their use since so many students wanted to sit in that comfy corner to read. When they first saw the bean bags, they were like "Really miss? We can sit in these? That's so cool!"
Seniors now have Theatre History Fridays where they can pick a play from our amazing library of plays and read on a Friday with a cup of tea, coffee or a water is they like. It makes the classroom feel comfortable, cozy and studious.”

Support Our High School Musical
Funded Jan 11, 2021Your donations helped us to provide our students with green screens, lighting cubes and snowball microphones so that they could record a porfessional high school musical. It was a steep learning curve for all of us ...none of us had done a virtual musical before but we now you will be thrilled with the results. We will forward you a link to the completed, edited musical in mid May.
When we started we werent sure we were going to be able to pull it off. but once the students heard the first recording of one of the songs, excitement grew!
We never could have made it s successful without your help!
I am attaching photos of teh students at their homes, with their green screens in place, lights on and microphones on.”

Drama Productions For Stars of Tomorrow!
Funded Aug 28, 2020We cannot thank you enough for your donations which allowed us to purchase green screens and tripods for our students as they tackled our Fall play. We have uploaded rehearsal shots from our production of TWILIGHT LOS ANGELES: 1992 by Anna Deveare Smith. Grade 9-12 students researched, rehearsed and performed the verbatim interviews of actual people who lived through the Los Angeles riots. Students then went through a filming process where we used green screens to give them a neutral background so that we could then add virtual backgrounds for each character. Student technical theatre majors embarked on an exhaustive design process. They spoke to each actor to suggest costume pieces that they could pull from their closets and lighting effects and found virtual backdrops to provide scenic design elements.
Our school will be using this production to immerse the entire student body in a study and discussion of these events and then all Fordham artists will create response works to the play making past, present and future connections. We promise to share the finished performance and artist response with you as soon as have finished the editing process. ”
