It's essential for children to feel safe and protected in the school environment for them to learn. Their needs have to be met in order for that to happen.
One way I can help to make my students feel safer is to provide them with items necessary to fight off germs and make our classroom a clean, comfortable, and fun place to learn.
The air purifier will give them cleaner air to breathe in the classroom, throughout the day. Hopefully it will cut down on the spread of germs in the air, thus allowing my students to stay healthy and at school. The automatic dispensers will allow them to get soap and hand sanitizer without touching them, therefore, eliminating germs and keeping our classroom a safer environment for learning as well. The sanitizing wand will be used on all small surfaces such as their Chromebooks and other class manipulatives used for Math and Science projects. When a child isn't feeling well, I can use the infrared thermometer to check their temperatures and send them to our nurse if needed for quick assessment. I plan to teach my students several health lessons on how to use these tools and the necessary steps to keep them healthy and safe during during the school day.
The last items that I want to provide my students with are 'mice' for their Chromebooks. Third grade students struggle to use the track pad on the device to scroll and click. The mice will help ease this struggle for their small hands. End of year testing is done with Chromebooks and mice, so the more a student works with and practices using a mouse, the better they will be at navigating to save time.
