With our school starting classes at home this year, it is really important for the direct instruction time to be as informative as possible. My general chemistry classes usually do a lot of group work, labs and activities, modeling, labeling and coloring. This year, students will not have any of those normal learning activities, but many can be modified with a demonstration, done in a Zoom breakout room, or completed with many of the newly available digital resources that have been made available to students. Through video conferencing and recording lessons in advance, I will be able to use the drawing tablet to sketch, label and color-code diagrams as well as perform math calculations to help students understand both content and function. I can use the phone holders, microphones, and lights to record demonstrations, complete dissections, and work with groups to accomplish simple alternate lab activities; all of which will require me to be hands-free during the lesson.
