We have big plans for the future of our art program at Harwell Elementary. When I entered Harwell Elementary as a new teacher January 2020, I saw the opportunity for great growth in the visual art program. I found that students were lacking a well rounded art education due from unfortunate circumstances. Art opportunities were being lost. This year it is my goal to reshape the art program at Harwell. One way to create a rich art education culture is through unique art projects. Art teachers have been using button makers to create amazing jewelry projects with their elementary art students. The small size of buttons makes them idle for storing. Due to COVID-19 regulations, the ability to store materials with students at home and at school is vital, so button making is an attainable project. Our art club at Harwell has great potential for participating in community service. In the past, Harwell art club opportunities have been limited. It is my hope that a button maker would give our art club students a means for fundraising. Students can design buttons using the button maker and sell them to the community to help support the art program at Harwell. In addition to the button making projects, our art classroom/portable is lacking sufficient storage space for our large fancy art paper. Currently art paper is warping because of the limited shallow storage shelves in our portable. A moving paper storage system will preserve our paper and help facilitate organization in our art portable.
