Because our students enter Kindergarten with a whole spectrum of different abilities after we do whole group instruction with everyone, we work with small groups. I pull students who are working on the same skills to practice together. Students who are still working on letters and sounds can do activities specifically targeted toward that skill. Students who are already reading work on skills like fluency and comprehension. Tailoring the instruction to our students' specific needs. We need activities for students to do in workstations! During that time we have the other students play games together to practice what they have learned. The emergent readers will be used to have the students read to a partner or read to themselves. The dry erase boards and games will reinforce the reading and math skills we are learning. These kinds of activities make learning fun for our students.
