Thank you so much for the new supplies to help students feel like "real" artists. We have practiced mixing colors and learned when and how to use different types of paintbrushes. When I first passed out the new watercolors one student exclaimed that this was the first time they got to use a never-before-used set. Students were really able to channel their inner artist sitting outside to create on a real canvas board. Many students told me their families would hang their art up at home. Thank you for this lovely learning experience.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hazzard
This classroom project was brought to life by Colorado Department of Education.
Many of my students come from underprivileged backgrounds. These art materials will literally help them become better learners. Not only will I facilitate fine art teaching using these materials, but my students will be able to use the watercolor sets, the oil pastels, and their sketchbooks in their regular classwork as well.
My students will paint the landscapes of their imagination, color a new, brave world, and sketch hundreds of failures before landing on a creative solution.
These art supplies might not seem like much, but to a child who does not own paint, or crayons, or paper, these simple materials will expand their artistic horizons. There is no limit to the possibilities of what line, shape, color, and pattern can create. With these supplies my students will not hunger for a tool to express themselves.
