“You have two days to get everything you need to teach because you may not be coming back here for a long time.” This is the last time I got to see my students and colleagues since the middle of March 2020. Since then, my students have been sitting in front of computers, listening to teacher’s voices, looking at black screens with names on them, and turning into Zoombies! We did not have the tools to create engaging lessons and continue to forge and foster the relationships so near and dear to our students and our teachers. I am requesting the SWIVL Starter Kit to begin to create these engaging lessons and create relationships with our new students in a remote environment. With this kit, I will be able to be in person in my classroom, using all of the teaching resources at my disposal to engage my students more effectively and create a virtual environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and fun, unlike a worksheet could ever be. My students will benefit from this kit because they will have a teacher who is creating community and relationships with them. Also the quality of the live instruction, feedback, and one on one time will be more robust. The students will also be able to access archived lessons to learn when they are unable to attend the live sessions or need additional support.
