Sensational Sensory Stations for Students With Special Needs
Funded Sep 3, 2024I teach amazing seventh and eighth grade students with multiple disabilities. Students with multiple disabilities are extremely varied in the way they learn and communicate. My classroom is filled with such diversity in learning styles; some of my students are verbal, others nonverbal, some can read easy text, while others cannot read text at all, no matter what learning level they are working on in class, all of my students do their best. My students work very hard throughout the school day and require breaks frequently. When the boxes arrived with the sensory donations from Donors Choose, my students were SO excited! Each item was celebrated like Christmas!
I created Sensational Sensory Stations with the new items I received through Donors Choose. Once work or a task is complete my students earn a break and may use one of the sensory stations around the classroom. The stations include; therapy putty, wooden puzzles, a light box with sand ( this is a FAVORITE!!!), and the octopus emotional stress balls. I am using the recordable buttons for a nonverbal student for communication. So far she is able to "say" yes, no, and I need help with her buttons. We will add more as her skill level improves. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your generosity for the Dream Team!!!”
With gratitude,
