  • More Art at LRJSHS!

    Funded Sep 15, 2020

Thanks to your donations, I was able to purchase dry and oil pastels as well as watercolor paints for my students to experiment with. They arrived just in time for me to be able to send them home when our school district had to switch to distance learning in December. The new supplies provided a much-needed distraction, a novelty when we need something new to get us through distance learning between the holidays.

During distance learning, the art class met twice each week over Zoom. At the first meeting, I would take them through how to use the medium of the week. Some students loved using dry pastels for the first time, while others preferred the oil pastels. One student in particular found out that she especially loves dry pastel over pretty much every other media she's tried. Watercolor was harder to teach over zoom, but students were able to grasp the techniques for that, too. The biggest challenge was providing students with the correct type of paper for each media, but that was surmountable because of your help in purchasing the media themselves.

Because of your donations, my students were able to create art even in difficult circumstances. Thank you so, so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Spark-Stahl

  • Let There Be Art!

    Funded Aug 9, 2020

Thank you so much for your donations! My students were so excited to receive these shiny new art materials to work with! I have checked out a box to each student, and we've already started on our first project of the year, our Elements of Art booklet.

It cannot be understated how important and integral art is to education. No student, at Lost River or anywhere else, should have to go without. Thanks to you, my students are getting an opportunity that they might not normally be able to receive.

Thank you again on behalf of 16 7th graders who are excited to start the year, and the other half of the 7th grade that I'll get to see next semester!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Spark-Stahl

Traditionally, I have art supplies available for universal use, but with student safety in mind, individual cases and sets of supplies will allow students to get the most use and time out of their art period. Instead of having to sanitize as they go, students will be able to grab and use their own supplies. I have chosen high-quality Prismacolor colored pencils because my students don't often get a chance to use a nice quality colored pencil. By donating to fund this project, you will bring safe, quality art supplies to students who don't necessarily have access to them. Art is an important outlet for students, and this year's 7th graders should be able to create just as much as others have in years past. These supplies can also be sent home so that students can have them during distance learning.
